Lago Dollar store opened in 1994, owned and operated by Jose Tavares Sr and family. The company created a mission to maintain affordable prices for local families. Jose Sr. worked at Lago Dollar for 12 years in Hialeah Florida. During this span he got to know the locals well, provided friendly and respectful customer service while keeping stock of many different products for family shopping. Lago Dollar was his pride and joy as, he took pleasure in going to work each day.
In 2004 his health started to decline in which he took that moment to introduce his eldest son Jose Jr to the company, hoping he would continue his mission. Jose Junior joined the company with a wide knowledge of retail and customer service. Together they steadily work to improve the company year after year. Maintaining customer relations and bargain prices, the company soared for the following years. Jose Junior gradually accepted becoming president of the company at his father’s request to retire in 2006. Expanding to a second store Lago Dollar 2 shortly after his father’s retirement while carrying over the same goals his father had set for the company in earlier years.
Operating two stores presented new opportunities in variety merchandising and staff. Jose’s wife took over management for Lago Dollar 2 and can still be found at the front desk of the store daily.
With the economy changing Jose Junior introduced new merchandises to the company to sustain customers demand. Expanded the company to offer cellphones, bill services and accessories with bargain prices. With the economy changing and online orders becoming more of today’s convenience, Junior decided it was time to offer more to our locals and supply the request for online ordering. In 2018, online ordering with store pickup begin at Lago Dollar (A.K.A Lago Discount). With more customers and locals ordering online Lago Dollar 1 moved to become an online store ( Lagodiscount.NET ) in 2018 to retain its customers.
As of 2020, Lago Dollar is now known as Lago Discount and offers shipping to all of the U.S., store pick-up and local delivery.
